The why behind the mission

Updated: Dec 17, 2023

I was raised in a Christian home with loving parents. When I was 12, I gave my life to Christ. I had a strong desire to know all I could about God and His plan for me. I had so many questions and so much to learn. Throughout my high school years, I struggled to keep my relationship with Him my main priority. During those years my relationship with Christ seemed to fluctuate a lot between hot and cold.

I want Jesus to be number one in my life. I want to know Him and His scripture and how I can be used by Him. I pray God helps me improve my appreciation for all the blessings He constantly bestows upon me, I want to better see His fingerprints in the world around me and allow me to be more humble in His awesome presence. I feel I lose sight of the beauty in all His works when I see others suffering and the sin that surrounds us. I have always strived to travel and God has blessed me with many opportunities to be His hands and feet in places like Honduras, Jamaica, and in my city.

He's opened my eyes to continuing mission work throughout whatever career He has planned for me. I also believe He has blessed me with people skills to encourage my community and make a difference in wherever He leads me. My current plan is to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. I would love to someday use the skills God blesses me with to not only help people but to share the love of Christ. My family has always been close, with God as the center of everything. My father has encouraged me to be the best version of myself and has been patient with me all the times that I have steered away from my true path.

My mother has been loving and considerate when I get confused about where my head is at, she is there to listen and not pass judgement. My older sister has shown me loyalty and forgiveness whenever I get myself in a rut. She's there for me every step of the way and will never leave me to struggle alone. My older brother has shown me worth and dignity. He holds himself and the people he spends his time with to a high standard and pushed me to do the same. He's also shown my family love in ways where he doesn't expect anything in return. My younger sister has shown me what an impact I can make on others and that no matter what people say, I'm going to be who I am regardless.

If I could come back with one thing changed it would be for my relationship with Jesus to be strengthened and that I would be challenged in my faith and walk. I am incredibly excited to be discipled as I have been dreaming of this opportunity. My favorite way to spend my time here at home is to be surrounded by people who uplift, encourage, and challenge me to be all God created me to be. If I can find people like that in New Zealand it would be an honor to be challenged by them.
